Nike Zion 1
Zion Williamson was the Number 1 NBA draft pick of 2019, and I wanted to create a shoe that fit all of his needs. The then 18 year old college freshman was 6 ft 7 in and 180 pounds. He averaged 22.6 points his first year at Duke University, becoming one of the most dominant college basketball players in history. However, even Zion was prone to injury. During the UNC vs. Duke game, Zion was wearing the Nike PG 2.5 when one of his shoes exploded on court. He was taken out of the game, and did not return.
Having this injury in mind, I needed to create a shoe that kept Zion quick on his feet, but gave enough support that he did not have to worry about future injuries. This concept design finds inspiration from classic Nike shoes such as the Air Jordan 1 with the colorway following his Alma Mater. This silhouette could be worn both on the court and on the street, making it a beautiful versatile design.
